Fighting is no joke. Dedicating your body, your time, every fibre of your being to be put through its paces, day in day out, inevitably to be put on the line for the entertainment of others. To help ease the strain and struggle of the dedication, fighters can approach sponsors to help take some of the pressure off.
No matter the sport, boxing, MMA, Judo, Karate… everyone knows that it takes sacrifice and commitment on every front to be ready come fight night. Not only does it take a lot of personal investment (time/effort/brain capacity etc) but it also takes a lot of financial investment too.
From training, to travelling, private 1-2-1 sessions, food, equipment, tickets to support other fighters, running competitions, investing into the growth of your own personal brand, the costs really quickly add up and, for a hobby, can become quite expensive.
I have noticed that, even as a new fighter, there is work to be done for fighters to create something that is appealing to the businesses with whom they are looking to approach in regards to potential sponsorship.
I posted on social a few weeks ago, before I ever thought that approaching potential sponsors was within the realm of possibility for me, and asked what people thought about and how they went about approaching and putting together packages for potential sponsors.
I knew it was always something that could be done eventually and upon research, a few things very quickly became apparent. It isn’t just about how many likes or followers you have on social. It isn’t just about tagging sponsors in posts. It isn’t just about getting them to give you some money and saying thank you and never speaking to them again (I’ve actually been told this happens!)
This got me thinking about what I could offer. How could I benefit a business? What do I do that sets me aside from anyone else? What makes me unique? All these questions whirring around in my head with very little in the way of any answers, or a solutions to my newly presented obstacles.
I thought long and hard about how I could help businesses/people that would be looking to invest their time, effort and money in to me. How I could make that as beneficial as possible for the business who sees value in investing in me.
To me, the notion is absolutely crazy that someone would be willing to lay their money down to help support me in my journey because I am very early in doing so. My social following isn’t the greatest (a bit better than most but not by any means great!) and I didn’t actually know whether what I had in mind would be beneficial to the potential sponsors around.
After sending the proposals out to some of my business owner friends, tweaking the packages and really honing in on my message it became apparent that I did actually have something that could benefit people.
I have a skillset that can really benefit business owners (I am a videographer by trade). This is MY skillset. A skill I have developed over the past 5 years, which is now at a standard where I feel confident in offering them as part of my sponsorship packages to benefit the businesses who want to work with me.
I also came to find out about the Dragonfly Cancer Trust and how they are helping children throughout the UK. Young people who have been given a terminal prognosis and have some things they want to do before they sadly pass.
This cause to me is very important. I know that the 10% of the sponsorship packages I have put together will be put to very good use. Invested in day trips, memories, meals, keep sakes, parties… whatever the young person may want to see, feel, taste or do before their time tragically comes to an end.
It’s important to me to help people. If there is someone out there who is willing to lay their hard earned cash on the line to help me achieve what I want, then if I can siphon off a small amount and put it towards a very worthy and deserving cause.
Between the charity donation and my video offering… there are many other benefits of working with me. With continuous growth planned across social media and lots of incentives including giveaways, kit competitions and tickets to come and see me fight, there could be something included in my packages that could benefit you.
If you are a business owner and would like to open some dialogue about how we could work together, no matter where you are in the UK then feel free to get in touch! I would love to hear from you and let you see the packages I have put together.
It is the beginning of a very exciting journey and one that I am very much looking forward to sharing with a select few businesses who fit with my ethos and message.
Step outside your comfort zone and inspire others to make the change in their life that they want.
